Blood pressure

A calm reminder app for blood pressure medication

Medication you'll take for decades has a specific failure mode: it becomes so routine you genuinely can't remember doing it.

Kounts Dose Today screen grouping the morning's doses with a clear taken or still-due state

Long-term cardiovascular medication — a blood pressure tablet, a statin, a blood thinner — is the opposite problem from a short course. Nothing about it is complicated. You take it every morning, possibly forever, and precisely because it's so automatic, the memory of this morning is indistinguishable from yesterday's. That uncertainty is where double doses and skipped doses come from. The other slow failure is the repeat prescription: it renews on someone else's timetable, and running out is a paperwork problem that turns into a health one. Kounts Dose is built to answer “did I take it?” in a glance and warn you about supply while it's still boring to fix.

What actually goes wrong: Standing in the kitchen at 8am, tablet in hand, not sure. Guess wrong one way and you skip; guess wrong the other and you double. A reminder that only fires and disappears doesn't help you here.

Setting it up in Kounts Dose

  1. One medicine, one time, logged every day

Add it as a once-daily medicine at whatever time is anchored to something you already do. The point isn't the alarm so much as the log: tapping Take is what turns “I think so” into a fact you can check later.

  2. Put it on a widget so checking costs nothing

The Next dose and Today widgets show, from your Home or Lock Screen, whether today's dose is still outstanding. That answers the 8am question without unlocking anything or opening an app.

  3. Add the rest of the morning handful

Most people on a blood pressure tablet are taking two or three other things. Give each its own colour and icon, and Today groups them by time so the whole morning is one clear list rather than four separate reminders.

  4. Set supply from your repeat prescription

Enter the number of tablets you were dispensed — 28, 56, 84 — and Dose counts down and warns you before you're empty. For a long-term repeat, that early warning is the difference between ordering online and phoning a surgery in a panic.

Never change, skip or double a dose of cardiovascular medication based on what an app shows you. Kounts Dose does not know your prescription, does not check interactions, and cannot advise on a missed dose — if you're unsure whether you've taken a blood pressure tablet, a blood thinner or a heart medicine, contact your doctor, pharmacist or an urgent care line rather than guessing. Kounts Dose also does not store blood pressure readings; for logging measurements, use Apple Health or an app built for it.

Why it suits this routine

“Did I take it?” answered from the Lock Screen

Taken, still due, or missed — visible without opening the app. And because logging is one tap from the widget or the notification, the record stays accurate enough to trust, which is the only thing that makes it useful.

Undo, for when you tap by reflex

Logging a dose you haven't taken is worse than not logging one. Dose confirms with a small pop and lets you undo immediately, so a mis-tap doesn't quietly become a false record you rely on tomorrow.

A record for your next review

When a doctor asks how consistently you've been taking something, “fine, mostly” is a weak answer. History shows the last weeks as a calendar or week grid, and Dose Plus exports CSV — an honest record, without the app grading you with an adherence percentage.

Questions, answered

Can Kounts Dose record my blood pressure readings?

No — it tracks medicines only, and doesn't store readings, weight or other measurements. That's a deliberate scope choice. If you want doses and readings in one place, Apple Health or MyTherapy will suit you better, and we'd rather point you there than pretend otherwise.

How do I stop double-dosing when I can't remember?

Make the record easy enough to trust and easy enough to check: log with one tap when you take it, and put a widget on your Home or Lock Screen so “is today's done?” is answerable at a glance. If you're ever genuinely unsure whether you've taken a dose, ask a pharmacist or doctor rather than acting on a guess.

Will it remind me to reorder a repeat prescription?

It warns you based on supply rather than a calendar date. Enter how many tablets you were dispensed and Dose counts down as you log, shows about how many days remain, and nudges you once before it gets tight — then a tap on “I refilled this” tops the count back up.

Can I track several morning medicines together?

Yes. Today groups doses by time, so everything due at 8am appears as one block, each medicine with its own colour and icon. Unlimited medicines come with the one-time Dose Plus unlock; the free tier covers one.

Never miss a dose. Never run out.
