Honest comparison
Kounts Dose vs MyTherapy
MyTherapy is free, thorough and genuinely good. The difference is scope — and where your data sits.
Free with one medicine · $9.99 one-time unlock · No account
MyTherapy, from the German company smartpatient, is one of the best-regarded medication reminders on the App Store: 4.8 stars, free, and far broader than its name suggests. Alongside reminders it offers a symptom and pain diary, 20-plus health measurements, injection-site tracking, weight support, Apple Health sync and monthly health reports. If you're managing a chronic condition and want one app holding the whole picture for your next appointment, that breadth is the point. Kounts Dose goes the other way deliberately: it is a medication organiser and nothing else, with no account, no server, and a design that keeps a single screen calm. Neither approach is wrong — they're answers to different questions.
The short answer
Choose MyTherapy if you want a free, all-in-one health journal — symptoms, measurements, reports — to bring to your clinician. Choose Kounts Dose if you only want the medication part, want it to look and feel like a native iPhone app, and would rather no account or server ever held your health data.

Where each app is stronger
Where Kounts Dose is stronger
Nothing to sign up for
MyTherapy's cross-device features rest on an account, which means your medication list lives on someone's server. Dose has no sign-up because it has no back end: data sits on your iPhone, and optional sync uses only your private iCloud database through CloudKit — storage we can't read. For medication data specifically, a lot of people would rather that were true.
One job, done calmly
A diary, measurements, reports and reminders in one app is powerful, but it's also more screen to wade through when you just want to know whether you took the 8pm tablet. Dose keeps Today to the doses due, the ones taken, and anything running low — deliberately not a dashboard, and deliberately not asking you to log your mood to unlock a chart.
Awkward schedules and iPhone niceties
Cycles like 21 on / 7 off, courses that end by themselves, per-time dose amounts, critical alarms that ring through Focus, and widgets with a working Take button. Dose is a small app built native-first for iOS 26, and it shows in the places you touch every day.
Where MyTherapy is the better choice
It's free, with far more in it
MyTherapy costs nothing and includes a symptom diary, 20-plus measurement types, injection-site tracking and generated health reports. If you'd use those, it's straightforwardly better value than any one-time purchase — Dose doesn't have them and isn't planning to.
Better for appointment prep
Tracking blood pressure, weight, symptoms and doses in one timeline and printing a monthly report is exactly what a specialist appointment wants. Dose gives you a dose log as CSV; MyTherapy gives you a rounder clinical story.
Two-way Apple Health sync
MyTherapy writes measurements back into Apple Health. Dose only reads your medication list from Health, once, and never writes anything back — cleaner, but less connected.
What Kounts Dose looks like
Questions people actually ask
Is MyTherapy really free?
Yes — as of July 2026 its App Store listing advertises no paid tier, and smartpatient has consistently described it as free to use. That's genuinely unusual in this category, and worth weighing seriously against any paid app, including ours.
Then why choose Kounts Dose over a free app?
Two reasons, and if neither applies to you then don't. First, privacy architecture: Dose has no account and no server, so your medication list isn't stored with a provider. Second, focus: if you want a medication organiser rather than a health journal, Dose's single calm screen, widgets, critical alarms and supply warnings are the whole product rather than one tab of it.
Which is better for tracking blood pressure alongside medication?
MyTherapy, clearly. It records 20-plus measurement types and charts them over time. Kounts Dose tracks medicines only — it won't store your blood-pressure readings, and won't pretend to.
Do either of them share my data with pharma companies?
We can't speak for another company's data practices — read MyTherapy's own privacy policy, which is the only authoritative source. What we can state about Dose: there is no account, no server of ours holds your health content, we never receive medication names or doses, and analytics are anonymous feature counters only.
Try the calm one.
Free with one medicine, no account, and nothing leaves your iPhone. If it isn't for you, you've lost nothing.
