Appointments

Appointments, next to your medicines

The visit that changes a dose and the medicine itself now live in one app.

Kounts Dose Appointments tab listing upcoming visits: a blood pressure review, a blood test and weekly physiotherapy

Most people who take medicines regularly also have the appointments that decide them: the GP review, the blood test before it, the clinic that gives a three-monthly injection. They usually live in a paper diary, in Calendar, or in someone's head. Since version 2.0, Kounts Dose has an Appointments tab beside Medicines, so a visit, its preparation and the medicines you want to talk about sit in one place. It records what you enter. It never books anything, suggests a visit or judges how one went.

How it works

One-off or repeating

A GP visit, a blood test, a dental check-up, physio every Thursday or dialysis three times a week. Enter a repeating one once. Pick a type, whether it is in person, by phone or on video, and the place. Searching for an address uses Apple Maps, and Directions is one tap away.

Reminders you can plan around

A reminder the day before and another shortly before the visit, with times you choose in Settings. An item on your prep checklist can carry its own reminder too. Appointments have no critical alarm and no missed state: a visit you haven't marked reads Past, with no count of how many you've attended.

Prepare before you go

A checklist, the questions you want to ask, and the medicines to talk about. Each medicine shows its dose, how much is left, and the notes and side effects you logged since the last visit. Dose Plus adds reusable checklists, so the same prep is one tap next time.

A note afterwards

After the visit, a quiet card asks how it went. Mark it attended, cancelled or rescheduled, write what happened, and record changes such as a medicine started, stopped or changed. A change opens the normal edit screen. Nothing changes your medicines by itself.

Care team

Save the clinicians and clinics you see, with their role, address and phone, and reuse them on appointments and on a prescription's prescriber. You type them in. Dose never reads your contacts.

On Today and in History

Today can show doses and appointments together, or either one on its own with the All, Medicines and Appointments switch. History keeps appointments in its log, month calendar and week grid. Someone who only wants a medicine tracker can leave Appointments off.

For one person or everyone you look after

Each person has their own appointments. A reminder for one person is never silenced by looking at another person's list.

Medicines given at the clinic

A three-monthly injection or an infusion can take its doses from the appointment's dates, so you don't keep a schedule and a calendar that disagree. The dose is logged only when you confirm it.

The details that matter

Apple Calendar, if you want it

Switch on Show in Calendar and each person's appointments appear in a calendar of their own, kept up to date when you change them. Choose Full, which shows the type, clinician and place, or Discreet, which shows only “Appointment”, the time and the place. Neither includes medicines, notes, questions or prep. Dose reads only the events it wrote, the ones you choose to import, and what else is on when you add an appointment, and none of it is stored or sent anywhere. It asks for full calendar access when you turn the switch on, and stays off until then. Without it, Add to Calendar hands a single event to the system editor with no permission at all.

Pack for an appointment

From an appointment, one tap prepares the appointment pack, with a Since the last appointment period. The day before, a card offers it. The pack is the same plain record as before: no score, no photos, and nothing worked out from it. It does not list your appointments.

On iPhone, iPad and Mac

The Appointments tab is on all three, and Siri and Shortcuts work with them. Calendar sync works on the Mac too. The widget, Apple Watch rows and Live Activity need Dose Plus and are on the devices that have them: the Mac has no widgets.

What stays on your devices

Appointments are stored like medicines, on the device, and sync only if you turn on iCloud sync, to your own private iCloud database. Appointments are not in the CSV export yet.

What this costs

Free includes one upcoming appointment, with its reminders, prep checklist and the after-visit note. Dose Plus makes appointments unlimited and adds the care team, reusable prep templates, medicines linked to a visit, the appointment widget, Apple Watch rows and the Live Activity. A repeating appointment counts as one. Dose Plus is $9.99 once, or an optional $1.99/month.

Questions, answered

Does Kounts Dose have an appointment reminder?

Yes, since version 2.0. It reminds you the day before and shortly before each appointment, with times you can change, and it can remind you about an item on your prep checklist too.

Is it free?

One upcoming appointment is free, with its reminders, checklist and after-visit note. Dose Plus, $9.99 once or an optional $1.99/month, makes appointments unlimited and adds the care team, prep templates, medicines linked to a visit, the appointment widget, Apple Watch rows and the Live Activity.

Can I put appointments in Apple Calendar?

Yes, if you switch on Show in Calendar. Each person gets a calendar of their own, kept up to date as you change appointments, and you choose Full or Discreet detail. It never includes medicines, notes or questions. It is off until you turn it on, and you can remove Dose's calendars from the same screen.

Can it import appointments I already have in Calendar?

Yes. You choose which events to bring in, and Dose doesn't scan your calendar or suggest events on its own. When an event it wrote is changed in Calendar, Dose asks before it changes its own copy.

Does it book appointments or talk to my clinic?

No. It records the appointments you enter. There is no booking, no clinic or insurer connection, and no suggestion that you should see someone.

Does it keep a count of appointments I miss?

No. An appointment you haven't marked reads Past, neutrally. There is no attendance score or streak.

Can I use Dose without the Appointments tab?

Yes. Appointments have a switch in Settings, and Today and History can be set to show medicines only.

Do appointments have a critical alarm?

No. Critical alarms are for doses. Appointments use ordinary notifications, the day before and shortly before.

Take the calm way.

A private, beautifully simple way to stay on top of your medication — and never run out.
